Christian Peacemakers Freed

"Blessed be the Lord our God--He has come to His people and set them free."

As many people may now know, the three Christian Peacemakers still held captive in Iraq have been freed. We give thanks and praise to God for this wonderful turn of events, and we especially give thanks that, according to news reports, their rescue was accomplished without a shot being fired.

We continue to pray for all those still held captive, Iraqis as well as internationals.

More updates and comments to follow.

More news keeps coming in. First of all, it seems that Norman Kember, Jim Loney, and Harmeet Sooden are all in good health, according to news reports. More to be thankful for. But there's still this great sadness, that Tom Fox won't be coming home.

But there was a bit of good news about him hidden away in one of the news stories. CPT, after viewing his body, doesn't think that he was tortured.

I have to reiterate how glad I am personally that no one (so the news reports go) was hurt in the rescue. It's already strange to think of commandos rescuing CPT'ers. It would be such a cruel irony if anyone had killed while trying to rescue those who so wholeheartedly foreswore violence.

Ekklesia, the UK-based think tank that focuses on issues of Christianity and public life, has released an excellent rebuttal to all the wild allegations that have been made about CPT's mission, the character of the released CPT'ers, the circumstances of their rescue, etc.
